Just another Voices of Migration site

Playing with Media and Migration Matters

This week I began working with different types of media to talk a  little about migration and why it matters. I decided to go work with Google Slides, a tool that I have worked with before. Something I have not done, though is embed something from Google Slides directly into my blog. It took a little trial and error and some YouTube tutorials, but I had success in the end.

The presentation as it stands is some very, very basic information about why migration is important. I hope as I learn more I can continue to change and expand the information to show people why they should try to understand the issues of migration more deeply.

I really liked the animated map you included in your power point. I think the photos you included, both the positive and negative one, invoke a strong emotional response.

Personally, I think an embedded presentation would look great in students’ final webpage projects as demonstrated by your work for this blog post. An embedded presentation enables an internet user to manually scroll through the slides, thus encouraging user participation and engagement. In addition, manually moving through a presentation allows for a degree of user autonomy/choice due to the fact that information can be selectively read. Perhaps to enhance this concept of user autonomy, the creator of an embedded presentation could create a table on contents so that users know both the subjects covered and their location in the presentation. You have certainly given me another tool to consider while creating my own website. Thank you!
